Pokémon Go: Everywhere new arenas? Players are confused

Since October 30, 2021, something in Pokémon Go, more precisely, is on the map of the mobile app. For, as numerous players report on Reddit, among others, new arenas appear in the area. This is apparently not true for each region in the world, but in some areas, up to 40 new arenas appeared within a very short time after a map synchronization.

New arenas do not stick to S2 cell rule

Because Niantic has not expressed itself so far, the fans currently eagerly discuss the cause of this sudden change. The fact that the locations of the arenines does not follow the normal distribution scheme ensures additional confusion. Because normally, the developers use a clear rule for the positioning of new arenas, the so-called S2 cells.

Arenas can always appear in Pokémon Go according to the following principle:

The map of Pokémon Go is divided into individual segments, the cells. Depending on how many poké stops are in a cell, arenas can be present in the same cell. Two stops in a cell justify an arena.

Is Niantic's New Game BETTER Than Pokémon GO? (Pikmin Bloom Hands On) Six Points of Interests (including pokéstops and arenas) allow another arena. At 20 Points of Interests, there may still be a third arena.

The arenas, which have now emerged completely abruptly since October 30, 2021, do not consider these rules. Players report that arenas also emerge there, where the S2 cell scheme does not give enough pokéstops.

The fans are therefore still behind their enthusiasm about the new arenas. Some reddit users also suspect that it could be a massive bug and the developers will soon remove the additional arenas. Until Niantic issues an official opinion, we wait. As soon as we have new information about this topic, we will inform you promptly.
